A few weeks back (yes I am a little behind) I got the pleasure of attending another fun L’Oréal Professionnel event held at the Rossano Ferretti Hairspain Beverly Hills. L’Oréal Professionnel had hair master Rossano Ferretti himself along with his top senior colorist, Nancy Braun. Rossano had talked about his ever so interesting technique he invented for cutting hair making the layers almost invisible so that your hair looks natural yet still has shape. Nancy then took it from there explaining her color technics also pointing out that her stradegy is to make your hair color look as natural as possible but still vibrant and complimenting. In my opinion, the most interesting point Nancy made was when she colors people’s hair she imagines their hair color as it was when they were a child and tries to mimic that. She pointed out that children’s hair has great natural highlights and deep beautiful colors that stand out. For their presentation (as you can see in the photos above) they brought out 3 models in which Rossano cut their hair and Nancy colored it. How beautiful is every one of these model’s hair? The cut and color looks so effortless and naturally gorgeous, I was instantly inspired. As they showed us the models they went into L’Oréal Professionnel’s color system thats been around for about 2 years, INOA and also the Balayge technique. INOA has no amonia in the hair color and is strictly oil based which means no harsh smells and your hair is left super soft and healthy. Balayage on the other hand, is a French colouring technique that was developed in the 1970s. It’s a freehand technique where the colour is applied by hand rather than using the traditional foiling or cap highlighting techniques. A few key points on Balayage
- Easier to maintain (i.e. analogy of unpeeling an onion)
- More natural effect/result
- Prevents overlapping
- Able to gradually change color
- Ombré results can be achieved with Balayage
